Emery Sheaffer Services Held
Emery Sheaffer, 101, of Grundy Center, died Tuesday, June 6, at the Long Term Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center of natural causes.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 9, at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center with Pastor Eric Nielsen officiating. Burial was held in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center with full Military Rites by American Legion #349.
Pallbearers were Donna Lawrence, Jeff Reints, Michelle Reints, Julie Anderson and Dennis Anderson.
Memorials may be made to Grundy County Hospice.
Emery was born the son of William and Clara Myers Sheaffer on January 18, 1894, in New Port, Pennsylvania. On December 21, 1922, he was united in marriage to Tillie Nederhoff in Waterloo. They lived their first year of marriage in Marshalltown. Emery and Tillie farmed southwest of Grundy Center until November 1, 1973, when they moved into Grundy Center.
Emery was a veteran of WWI and a 75-year member of American Legion #349 and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Grundy Center.
Emery is survived by 1 daughter, Mrs. Elso (Marjorie) Reints of Shell Rock; 1 brother, Harold Sheaffer of Newport, Pennsylvania; 3 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Tillie, in 1981; 1 daughter, LaVerne Lawrence; 1 grandson, Larry Lawrence; and his parents.
The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the arrangements.
