Ernest Hess Dies Friday In Hospital
Ernest M. Hess died in the Grundy hospital at 4:30 on Friday, Sept. 24. Death came soon after a heart attack. He was 70 years old.
The body was taken to the Ferree funeral home where funeral arrangements were made. Services were held Monday at the Baptist church in Grundy Center with Rev. J. C. Ford officiating. Burial was in the Grundy Center cemetery.
Mr. Hess was born on a farm in Melrose township, Sept. 6, 1895. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Hess. He grew up on the Hess farm.
On February 22, 1917, Ernest Hess and Fannie Smith were married at Eldora. The couple lived on a Melrose township farm after their marriage. In 1954 they moved to Conrad, where they lived for two years, after which they moved to Grundy Center where they resided continually.
Surviving are the wife, three sons and four daughters. The sons are Vail Hess, Grundy Center, Gerald, Grundy Center, Gordon, Boone. The daughters are (Cecile) Mrs. Chester Lindsey and (Maxine) Mrs. Merle Harmon, both of Minneapolis; (Carol) Mrs. Carl Timm, Alpena, Mich., and (Darlene) Mrs. Don Brickell, Long View, Wash. There are 22 grandchildren.
Other survivors are one sister, Mrs. Frank Katzer, Whitten; six brothers, Leslie and Foster, Long Beach, Calif.; Robert, Eldora; Sylvia, Downey, California, Homer, La Mesa, California, and Vernon, Pipestone, Minn.
His parents and one sister, Mrs. Charles Ware, preceded him in death.
