2-Year-Old Girl Killed At Buck Grove Monday Morning Under Truck Wheel
Leisha Aukes, 2-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Aukes, who live near the skating rink at Buck Grove, was killed instantly about 8:30 Monday morning when one wheel of a truck ran over her in the yard at the home.
The father of the child was driving the truck. The child and her mother were in the yard standing near the rear of the truck when the mother felt the weather colder than she thought before they left the house. She left the little girl standing alone in the yard and hurried to the house to get a scarf for the girl. The father thought the girl was with her mother and did not see the child until the truck knocked the little one down and the front wheels had passed over her before the father discovered what had happened.
Dr. Rolfs from Aplington was called and he answered the call immediately. He believed the child had met with death instantly and he advised County Medical Examiner Dr. Rose and the Grundy Sheriff's office that death was the result of an accident and that he did not regard an inquest necessary and took the child with him and placed her in the care of the Engelkes funeral home at Parkersburg.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in the Pleasant Valley E U B church. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Surviving are the parents and two sisters, Nancy and Denise. Grandparents surviving are Mr. and Mrs. Harm Aukes and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Weichers. Great-grandparents who survive are Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rewerts, Parkersburg; Mrs. Dick Weichers and Mrs. Margaret Eygabroad, Wellsburg.
