Ira J. Klinefelter Dies In Hospital
Ira J. Klinefelter died about 11 o'clock last Wednesday night, Apr. 21, at the Grundy hospital. He suffered a cerebral hemorrhage at his home April 11 and was taken to the hospital immediately after he was stricken. He was 82 years old.
The body was taken to the Ferree funeral home where funeral arrangements were made. Services were held Saturday afternoon at the Baptist church in Grundy Center. Rev. Milton Dowden, pastor of the Baptist church in Reinbeck, conducted the service. The Grundy Center Baptist church has been without a resident pastor for a number of months. Burial was in the family lot in the Alice church cemetery.
William Brockway was vocalist and Miss Diane Brockway presided at the organ.
Pallbearers were Ralph Phillips, Clarence Bockes, Harvey Mackie, Henry Wiesley, Paul Holeman and Manne Petersen. Flower attendants were Mrs. Paul Calton, Mrs. Horace Brown and Mrs. Ernest Hess.
Mr. Klinefelter was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Klinefelter. He was born at Troy Grove, Ill., January 14, 1883. As a youth he came to Grundy county with his parents. They established a home in the southwest part of the county where Mr. Klinefelter grew to manhood.
On Dec. 27, 1905, Ira Klinefelter and Bessie Wiley were married at the bride's home in Felix township. The couple resided on a Grundy county farm until 1938 when they acquired a home in Grundy Center where they resided continually except for a number of months in late years when they resided in Florida during the winter.
Widow, One Son and Five Daughters Survive
Surviving members of his family are his widow, five daughters and one son. The son Leonard H. Klinefelter resides in Beaman where he is at the head of the Farmers Savings Bank. The daughters are Mrs. Irene Masemore, Flagler Beach, Florida; (Hazel) Mrs. David Kell and (Carol) Mrs. Wayne Ralston, Grundy Center; (Eva) Mrs. Wendell Phillips, Wellman, Iowa; (Lois) Mrs. C. E. Brandenburg, Lebanon, Ohio.There are ten grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Other surviving relatives are one sister, (Lillie) Mrs. J. Clyde Smith, Grundy Center, Ford Klinefelter, Marshalltown; and Milton Klinefelter, Los Angeles.
Relatives present from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wiley Jr. and family, Miss Rae Jean Klinefelter, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wiley, Sioux Falls, So. Dak.; Donald Klinefelter, Northfield, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Klinefelter, Mrs. Frank Kwatera, Minneapolis, Mrs. Marshall Ferguson, Austin, Minn., Mrs. Irene Masemore, Flagler Beach, Fla., and Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Brandenburg, Lebanon, Ohio.
