Fred Koehler, 88, passed away on Friday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs.H. G. Thomas at Albion, where he made his home. He suffered a stroke two years ago and had not been in good health since. Mr. Koehler was born in Germany Nov. 22, 1845, and came to America at the age of 18 years, settling near Mt. Carroll, Ill. In 1871 he married Elizabeth Schneider and came to Iowa in 1881, settling in the Conrad and Grundy Center neighborhoods. In 1898 he moved into Marshall county, where he lived since that time. Mr. and Mrs. Koehler were the parents of twelve children, eight of whom survive: Mrs. Anna Canon, Mrs. Jud Bristley, Mrs. Wilbur Bartholomew, John Koehler, of Conrad; Mrs. H. G. Thomas, Albion; Mrs. Earl Minard, Toledo; Fred Koehler, Jr., of Liscomb; Chas. Koehler of New Hampton. Mrs. Koehler passed away in 1917. Thirty-two grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren also survive. He was a member of the German Lutheran church. Funeral services were held from the Methodist church in Conrad and burial in the Conrad cemetery on Sunday.
