Obituary John F. Meester
(By Mrs. J. D. Meester)

John F. Meester, a life long resident of Pleasant Valley township, and a son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Meester, pioneers of Grundy county, passed away on Easter Sunday, Apr. 16, at the Deaconess hospital at Marshalltown.

On April 8th he submitted to an operation for gallstones, and seemed to be improving until the morning of Apr. 15, when he began to fail. His wife, who had been with him continually, and his only brother, J. D. Meester, were at his bedside when he passed away.

He had been ailing for several years and had repeatedly tried to find relief. Three weeks before his passing his physician had advised him that an operation was necessary, to which he readily agreed.

John was of a genial disposition, and was always cheerful during his confinement, in spite of his suffering, and was conscious till the hour before he passed away.

He was born in Pleasant Valley township, Grundy county, March 9, 1872, and spent his entire life there.

On December 3rd, 1902, he was united in marriage to Miss Lizzie Sitters of Holland, Iowa, and began farming on his father's farm, which he had owned since February of this year.

He leaves to mourn his departure his bereaved widow, an aged father, Daniel Meester Sr., now 93, a brother, J. D. Meester, besides sixteen nieces and nephews, and many other relatives in Grundy county and a host of friends.

His mother, Mrs. Daniel Meester, passed away in February, 1925, and his younger sister, Fannie, on January 16, just three months to a day and at almost the same hour, prior to his demise.

The services were conducted by Rev. J. E. Drake in the Colfax Presbyterian church, assisted by Rev. D. Siemsen of the German Reformed church of Pleasant Valley township.

He was laid to rest in the family lot in the Holland cemetery. The pall bearers, all cousins, were Joe J. Meester, Hillert Meester, Will Meester, Joe A. Meester, Jake T. Meester, and Joe H. Meester.

Those attending from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. John Dingle and family, Morrison; Mr. and Mrs. Rene Orvis of Sumner, both sisters of Mrs. Meester, and Henry Sitters and wife of St. Paul, Minn., a brother.
