Mrs. Jacob DeBoer Dies Suddenly From Heart Failure

Mrs. Jacob DeBoer died suddenly at her home in the southwest part of Grundy Center from heart failure Friday evening. She passed away without warning shortly after she retired for the night.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the German Presbyterian church in Grundy Center with the local pastor, Rev. K. J. Stratemeier, in charge. The pastor delivered sermons both in the English and the German languages. He took his texts from Eph. 1:7 and Rom. 5:10 respectively. Burial was made in the cemetery at Stout.

Obituary
(By Rev. K. J. Stratemeier)

Johanna DeBoer, nee Fischer, was born November 9, 1857, in Norden, Ostfriesland, Germany. She came to America in 1890 and here was united in her first marriage to Mr. John Meneheine. To this union two children were born, Catherine and John. Catherine preceded her mother in death two years ago. The loss thus sustained filled the heart of the mother with an abiding sadness, leaving visible effects upon her physical condition. Her first husband was taken from her side through death in 1907.

She entered upon a second marriage in 1922, being then united to Mr. Jacob DeBoer, whom she now leaves sadly bereaved.

She had been in a failing condition for some time. However, the last afternoon of her life was spent in attendance at the union service held to observe the World Day of Prayer. That evening however death came unannounced and took her almost immediately upon retiring and without warning the soul fled from her Friday evening, March 3, 1933, at 9:45 p.m. The time of her pilgrimage extended over 75 years, 3 months and 24 days.

Pastoral visits revealed her as a child of God, who had the assurance of Christ as her Savior and Lord. The word of God was her chart and compass and she rejoiced to express her hope in the words of the great Christian hymns.
