Mrs. P. J. Lynch Dies Wednesday After Year's Illness

Had Been Resident of County For 50 Years; Funeral Services Saturday Were Largely Attended

After an illness from cancer for a year Mrs. P. J. Lynch passed away at her home in Grundy Center on Wednesday, August 3, at 9:30 p.m. at the age of 52 years, 6 months and 26 days. She had been a patient sufferer and died a peaceful death in the midst of her sorrowing loved ones.

The funeral services were held at Sacred Heart church on Saturday morning, August 6. The officers of the Requiem Mass were Reverend John Connell of Bernard, celebrant, Reverend Nicholas Steffen of Columbia College, deacon, and Reverend P. J. Boyle, of Grundy Center, sub-deacon.

Burial was in St. Joseph's cemetery, Grundy Center.

Ellen Marie Connell was born in Tazewell county, Illinois, on January 8, 1880. She was the second of the eldest of twelve children born to Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Connell. When she was twelve years old the family moved to Iowa and settled on a farm in the Alice neighborhood southwest of Grundy Center, where she grew to womanhood and taught school in Grundy county.

On June 9, 1909, she was united in marriage to Peter J. Lynch, moving to Aberdeen, South Dakota, where she made her home for three years. In 1911 she returned to Grundy Center where she has since made her home. Mrs. Lynch was the mother of four children, James J., Patricia Ann, Edward P., and Grace Adorine. She was a devoted mother and her death comes as a sorrow which cannot soon be forgotten.

Besides her bereaved husband and family she leaves to mourn her loss her mother, Mrs. Jerry Connell, four brothers and five sisters. Her brothers are Martin, Thomas, James and Reverend John Connell. Her sisters are Mrs. Nora Kinsinger, Miss Margaret --unreadable--, Sister Mary Carmelita, Mrs. Mae Murphy, and Mrs. Rose Hulne. She was preceded in death by her father, who passed away on Nov. 1, 1909, a sister, Sister Rose Marie O. H. M., who passed away on October 11, 1927, and a brother, William, who died in infancy.

Those who were here from a distance to attend the funeral were Jack Cullinan and daughter Stella, Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Cullinan and family, Delavan, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. John Lynch, Mrs. Loren Pease, Mrs. Frank Behrendsen, Gilmore City; Sisters Carmelita and Zia, Ottumwa; Sisters Adrienne and Innocentia, Chicago; Mrs. Will Meaney and family, Fairbanks; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Isaacson, Mrs. Grace Cummings, Fred Beeks and Miss Nettie Becks, Marshalltown; Misses Anna, Katie, and Johanna Powers, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Powers, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Flynn, Fort Dodge; Mrs. Henry O'Connor, Waterloo; Mr. and Mrs. Mike Morrisey, Lyman Callahan, Clara Farrell, Manchester; Mr. and Mrs. George Connell and daughter Patricia, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Roeder, Mrs. Loren Nieves and son, Roland, Cedar Rapids; Miss Mary Shay, John Warin, Maloy; Mrs. Sarah Kinsella and daughter, Agnes, Misses Mary, Grace, and LuVerne Shannahan, Bernard.
