Mrs. Harm Aswegan Dead
Mrs. Harm Aswegan, who had been ill for the past month suffering from heart trouble and complications, suffered a stroke Thursday afternoon and passed away that evening about 8 o'clock at her home in Stout. She had reached the age of 62 years, 9 months and 18 days.
Mrs. Roberta Aswegan, nee Marks, was born September 19, 1869, at Steenfelde, Kreis Leer, Ostfriesland, Germany. When a little over four years of age she came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. C. Marks, to the United States and settled in Grundy county.
On January 11, 1889, she was united in marriage with Harm Aswegan. It was their privilege to sojourn together for over 42 years. Fourteen children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Aswegan, two of whom have preceded them in death: David when a young man of 18 years and Mrs. George Reverts when she was 32.
The twelve remaining children are Henry, John, Fred, George, Luke, Joe, William, Robert, Dena, Anna, now Mrs. Ernest Kuehl, and Lucy, besides her stepmother, Mrs. H. Marks, and 19 grandchildren, two brothers, Fred and Joe, one sister, Mrs. Jurgen Bruns and three half-brothers, David, Henry and Luke, and three half-sisters, Mrs. Fred Greenfield, Mrs. John H. Aswegan and Mrs. Victor Bulthuis besides many other relatives.
The funeral was held from the home Monday at one o'clock and from the Reformed church at Stout at 1:30 with Rev. Heyenga officiating pastor. Interment was made in the Stout cemetery.
Relatives from a distance attending the funeral were Mrs. Pete Greenfield, Mr. and Mrs. John Greenfield, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Korte, Mr. and Mrs. Husenga, all of Woden; Mr. and Mrs. Luke Aswegan of Iowa Falls, Mrs. John Kappel of Kesley, Rev. Henry Marks of Lancaster, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. John H. Aswegan of Bristow and Conrad and Richard Schippers and family of Kesley.
