Word was received at Whitten by Mrs. Sarah Brooks of the death of her son, Chester Brooks, who passed away Saturday evening in a hospital in St. Paul, Minn. The body was brought here for burial and the funeral was held at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon from the home of his sister, Mrs. Jessie Flaherty.

At the age of 5 years he moved with his parents to Centralia, Kan., residing there until he was 18 years old, when the family moved to a farm five and one-half miles northeast of Whitten in Grundy county. A few years later he started work as a fireman on the M. & St. L. between Albert Lea, Marshalltown and Albia, which job he held until he lost his hearing and for the past eight years he has worked in St. Paul as a machinist for an oil company.
