Mrs. Orpha Wilson Died Friday At Eldora
Came to Grundy Center 54 Years Ago; Lived in Eldora 5 Years
Mrs. Orpha Wilson, better known as Mrs. J. T. Wilson, died at the home of her son-in-law, D. M. Moser, in Eldora last Friday. She was afflicted with a cancer for a year before her death and she was in poor health during that period. A week before her death she suffered a stroke of paralysis which hastened the end.
At her own request her funeral services were held among her old friends at the Baptist church in Grundy Center. The services were conducted by the local pastor, Rev. A. G. Annette, Tuesday afternoon at three o'clock. The remains were laid by the side of the husband in the Grundy Center cemetery. Mr. Wilson died Feb. 21st, 1916.
Mrs. Wilson's maiden name was Orpha E. Newcomer. She was born near Hagerstown, Maryland, October 27th, 1847. She was married to James Wilson at Hagerstown, October 27th, 1867. She and her husband moved to Grundy center in 1877 where she made her home continually until she went to Eldora five years ago to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. D. M. Moser.
Mrs. Wilson was an active member of the Baptist church in Grundy Center since the church's organization here and she retained her membership up to the time of her death. While she resided in Eldora she attended the Baptist church there.
Mrs. Wilson's only child and daughter, Mrs. D. M. Moser, passed away within the past year. She leaves but few relatives. Her closest relative is a brother, Sam Newcomer, who was here at the funeral. Aside from the brother there are a number of nieces and nephews. Aside from her relatives her death is mourned by a large number of old friends in Grundy county.
Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. Allen and Henry Burkett of Blairsburg, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Newcomer of California, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Cole of Marshalltown, Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Cole of Cedar Falls, Mrs. Clark of Mt. Morris, Ill., and Mrs. Etta Coffman of Mt. Morris, Ill.
