Obituary of Samuel Y. Reisinger
(Obituary by Rev. Masemore)

After a long and useful life, extending far beyond the allotted span of man, Samuel Y. Reisinger, a resident of Conrad, Iowa for 31 years, passed peacefully on into the presence of his Lord and Master in whom he trusted unto the end.

Samuel Y. Reisinger was the son of David and Sarah Reisinger. He was born Nov. 11th, 1840, in Columbisiana County, Ohio. After an illness of about six weeks, due to infirmities of old age he died April 15th, 1931, aged 90 years, 5 months, and 4 days.

Early in his life his parents moved to Ogle County, Illinois, where he grew to manhood and followed the occupation of farming.

On March 2nd, 1865, he responded to his country's call for volunteers to preserve the union of states, enlisting in Company F. 15th, Illinois, under Captain Jonathan Clendening. He was honorably discharged from military duty Sept. 16th, 1865. While his period of service was comparatively short, it was none the less vigorous, and he often referred to the hardships endured during this time.

After his discharge from the army he returned to his home in Illinois and on Sept. 26th, 1867, he was married to Mary Ellen Stover of Ogle Co., Illinois, who survives her husband, they having enjoyed a happy, married life for nearly 64 years. To this union were born two daughters; Mrs. Minnie Myrtle Stevens who preceded her father in death in Nov. 16th, 1918. And Mrs. L. J. Gohner of Conrad, Iowa. Eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive.

Mr. Reisinger moved his family to Grundy co., Iowa, in 1875 locating on a farm in Lincoln township. Afterwards he moved to the Alice neighborhood where they lived for about fifteen years and since retiring from the farm they have made their home in Conrad.

He was a member of the Alice church of God which he faithfully supported in every way within his power. He was a loyal citizen of the nation he volunteered, if need be, to give his life to perpetuate. A loving husband and father and a good neighbor. He was a man of unusual vitality and courage, while suffering with the weight of years he continued to move about, walking down town frequently and doing the chores about the home, until he took his bed with what proved to be his last illness. Besides his wife and family he leaves a host of friends and neighbors who will ever cherish his memory.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Church of God at Alice. The services were in charge of J. L. Masemore, Pastor of the deceased. A large crowd of friends were present at the services. Burial was in the Alice Union Cemetery.

The pallbearers were all American Legion men from Conrad. They were Dr. G. R. Gould, B. W. Frederick, E. C. Anderson, Fenton Parmenter, H. W. Morvine, and F. J. Dostal.

Military honors were given at the grave by the American Legion firing squad from Grundy Center under Adjt. Lawless.

The march of another soldier is over, his battles are all fought his victories all won, and as in other days he lies down to rest awhile under the arching sky awaiting the Resurrection in the life to come through our Lord, Jesus Christ.
