Area Man Dies At Rochester Of Injuries In Fall

A Wellsburg man, Rev. Daryl DeNeui, 32, of Clarksville, died Sunday in a Rochester, Minn. hospital of head injuries received Saturday when he fell from a ladder while painting a barn.

The fatal mishap occurred while Rev. DeNeui was helping paint a barn on the Dennis Miller farm near Shell Rock.

He was taken to Allen Memorial hospital in Waterloo and then transferred to St. Mary's hospital in Rochester, where he died the following day.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. this Wednesday at the East Friesland Presbyterian Church northwest of Wellsburg. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Rev. David Dupee and Rev. Rodney Peters officiated at the service.

Casket bearers were Donald Kramer, Bruce Bixby, Jim Miller, Dennis Meyer, Melvin Nederhoff and Frederick Fisher. Honorary casket bearers were Harry Miller, Herman Primus, Charles Orr, Harold Jaspers, Richard Cooper and Frank Johnke.

The Engelkes Funeral Home of Parkersburg was in charge of arrangements.

Daryl Gene DeNeui was born July 16, 1942, near Wellsburg, the son of Noble and Jeanette Peters DeNeui.

He was graduated from Wellsburg high school in 1960, attended Iowa State University from 1960 to 1963, and was graduated from Sterling, Kans. College in 1965.

Rev. DeNeui was graduated from the Dubuque Seminary in 1968.

He married Barbara Bennett on August 14, 1965, in Winfield, Kans. The couple made their home in Dubuque while he attended the seminary.

In 1968 the DeNeuis moved to Clarksville, where he was ordained a minister and served as pastor of the Unity Presbyterian Church until 1973.

They moved to Wellsburg in 1973 and farmed his parent's farm until 1975. During this time he served the Steamboat Rock Presbyterian Church for two years. In May of this year they moved to their present farm near Clarksville.

Rev. DeNeui is survived by his widow; one son, Michael, 6; a daughter, Laura, 3; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Noble DeNeui, Wellsburg; two sisters, Mrs. Arthur (Karen) Ames of Storm Lake and Mrs. Ray (Janice) Bye of Dubuque; and one brother, Robert DeNeui of Ackley.
