Mrs. Wierenga, Old Resident, Passes Away Suddenly Friday

Mrs. A. Wierenga, a resident of Holland for many years, passed away at her home early Friday morning. Death was due to heart failure and old age. She had not been feeling well for several days, but it apparently was not serious and her death was unexpected. Had she lived three more days, she would have been 83 years of age.

Trientje Wierenga, nee Wegman, was born in Province Groningen, Netherlands, February 16, 1848. In the year 1873 she came to the United States, settling in Illinois. There she was united in marriage to Anko Wierenga in 1882. They remained at Forreston, Ill., for one year following their marriage, coming to this county in 1883. They retired from their Colfax township farm in 1900 and took up their residence in the town of Holland where Mr. Wierenga died in 1909.

A short service was held at the home Monday afternoon at one o'clock, followed by services at the Colfax Presbyterian church, of which Mrs. Wierenga had been a member for many years. Rev. K. J. Stratemeier of Grundy Center officiated at the last rites, due to unavoidable absence of the pastor of that church. Interment was by the side of the husband at the Drake cemetery.

Surviving the deceased are a nephew, C. D. Stachour, of Sibley, Iowa, besides numerous relatives of the old country.
