H. L. Henningsen, who was a continuous resident of Grundy county for fifty-seven years, died at his home in Dike Monday morning. He had been in failing health during the past year but had been confined to his bed for but a month.
Funeral services were held at the home at Dike at one o'clock yesterday afternoon and at the Fredsville church at 2:30. Rev. Stockholm was the officiating pastor. There was a very large attendance at both of the services.
Mr. Henningsen was born in Denmark March 13, 1853, and would have been 77 years old the coming March. He came to this country when he was 19 years of age. The first year he spent at Sabula, Iowa. 57 years ago he came to Grundy county and made his home here continually up to the time of his death. He followed the business of farming. He acquired two fine farms during his lifetime, one in Grant and the other in Fairfield township. During the past fifteen years he made his home in Dike.
Mr. Henningsen was twice married. His first marriage was to Maren Slifsgard in 1874. There were fourteen children from this union. Only four of the children are living. The wife died in 1908. Seven years later he was married a second time to Miss Ellen Handrup, also a native of Denmark. The second wife died six years ago.
The four surviving children are Mrs. Laurena Madison, Fox Lake, Minn.; Mrs. Lauritz Hansen, Dike; Lawrence, Clear Lake, and Herman from Dike. One brother, Peter, is living at Dike.
