Louie Berends died at the home of his parents Wednesday evening, May 27, 1914, at half past nine o'clock, following only a week's illness with pneumonia, at the age of 16 years, 8 months and 2 days. Funeral services conducted by Rev. F. Reverts were held at Stout Monday afternoon at 1 o'clock.

Louie was the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerhard Berends, near Stout. He was born in Grundy county 16 years ago the 25th of last September. He was a kind and loving son and brother and a true friend to all who knew him.

His little brother, Peter, died about 7 months before him and a sister died about 22 years ago. He leaves to mourn his death his father and mother, seven sisters and one brother, Gerhard, his aged grandparents and other near relatives, and a host of friends.

We miss thee from our home, dear son and brother,
We miss thee from thy place,
A shadow o'er our life is cast,
We miss the sunshine of thy face.
We miss thy kind and willing hand,
Thy fond and earnest care,
Our home is dark without you,
We miss thee everywhere.
