On Thursday, August, 30, 2007, Reverend Glenn Russell Dieken, 92, was welcomed into heaven by the Lord he served and by his beloved wife, Johanna. Glenn passed away in Reno, Nevada. Funeral Services for Reverend Glenn R. Dieken will be held 10:30 A.M., Saturday, September 8, 2007, at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center, Iowa, with Pastor Rick Vesely officiating. He will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Cemetery, in Grundy Center, next to his loving wife, Johanna. Visitation will be held Friday, September 7, 2007, from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M., at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center, with the family present to greet friends.

Glenn Russell Dieken was born August 19, 1915, in Dike, Iowa the son of Juhren H. and Wilhelmina (Groote) Dieken. He was one of seven children. Glenn graduated from Dike High School and attended the University of Dubuque. He ultimately graduated from the University of Dubuque Seminary where he received his Masters Degree in Theology. On June 22, 1949, Glenn was united in marriage to Johanna Engelkes and in 1960 they adopted their son, Timothy John. Glenn lived his entire life in Iowa until 2004 when he and Johanna moved to Reno to be with their children, Tim and Vickie.

Throughout his career, Glenn served as pastor for churches in Kesley, Ashton, Montezuma, Traer, Owasa and Grundy Center. He was fluent in Hebrew and often enjoyed delivering his services in High and Low German. Glenn also served as night Chaplin for Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo for over 40 years. Glenn and Johanna both were active in their communities and strived to use their lives in service to others. They were long-time members of the Lions Club.

Glenn is survived by his son Tim Dieken and his wife Vickie of Reno, Nevada.

Glenn is predeceased by his wife, Johanna who passed away June 13, 2005. He is predeceased by his brothers, Hiriam, Elmer, LaVern and Irvin and his sisters, Ella Dieken (Graham) and Anna Dieken (Griffiths).
