Gareld "Robby" D. Robinson, 83, of Reinbeck, Iowa, died Sunday, March 12, 2006, at his residence in Reinbeck. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Friday, March 17, 2006, at Grace Brethren Church in Waterloo, Iowa, with Pastor Ron Weimer officiating. Burial will be at 9:00 A.M., Friday at the Reinbeck Cemetery. Full military rites provided by Reinbeck American Legion Action Post #242. Visitation will be Thursday, March 16, 2006 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at French Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck, where the family will be present to greet friends. A memorial fund has been established.
Robby was born July 7, 1922, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Ben and Mable E. (Thurn) Diehl. On September 27, 1942 Robby was united in marriage to Hazel M. Brandhorst in Casebeer Heights, Iowa. Robby served with the Army Air Force in WWII as a Sergeant with the 675th Bomb Squadron and 417th Bomb Group. Robby and Hazel made their home in Waterloo until 1952 when they moved to Reinbeck where Robby was the owner of Robbie's Standard Service. In 1972 he sold the service station to his son-in-law Rick and worked there until 1982 when he retired. Robby was a member of Grace Brethren Church in Waterloo and a lifetime member of the American Legion Action Post #242 in Reinbeck
He is survived by his wife Hazel; two sons, Dean and his wife Dora Robinson of Crestline, California; and Gary Robinson of Colorado Springs, Colorado; one daughter Carol and her husband Rick Jans of Golden, Colorado; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Donna and her husband Mike Patterson of Evansdale, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Ben Diehl; and four sisters, Myra Penticoff, Gladys Ehlers, Rose Ernster, and June Hiraga.
