Martha Jennie VanHauen, 82 of Grundy Center, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2005, at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 20, 2005 at 1:30 P.M, at the New Life Fellowship Church formerly the Holland Christian Reformed Church with burial following in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Pastor Gary Nibbelink and Pastor Diane Mitchell will officiate the service. Visitation will be held on Tuesday at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at church one hour prior to the service, the family will be greeting friends from 6-8 on Tuesday evening. A memorial may be directed to the family. The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center is serving the family of Martha Van Hauen.
Martha was born on Feb. 20, 1923 near Dike, Iowa, the daughter of George and Fannie (Behrends) Viet. She attended country school. On September 23, 1943, she was united in marriage to Herman E. Van Hauen at the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church, rural Holland. She was a member of the Holland Christian Reformed Church. Martha and Helen Collins quilted tops together for the Grundy County Hospice. Over the last two years they made over 60 tops.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Herman Van Hauen; a son-in-law: Bill Cobie; and two brothers: Ben and Herman Viet.
Survivors include a daughter: Dorothy Cobie of Ackley, Iowa; three sons: Delbert Van Hauen and his special friend Deb Griffith of Dysart, Iowa, Dale and his wife Rosie Van Hauen of Wellsburg, Iowa, and Dwayne and his wife Kim Van Hauen of Wellsburg, Iowa; thirteen grandchildren: Denise Fosse, Shane Van Hauen, Chris Van Hauen, Kim Van Hauen, Chad Van Hauen, Tracie Van Hauen, Sara Van Hauen, Justin Van Hauen, Abby Van Hauen, Amber Van Hauen, Matthew Van Hauen, Emily Van Hauen, and Brandon Van Hauen; three great grandchildren: Michael Van Hauen and Matthew Van Hauen, and Megan Van Hauen; two step granddaughters: Mandy and Tonya; five step-great grandchildren: Zoe Jensen, Michaela Jensen, Erika Schultz, Dominic Schultz, and Alexis Rocle; a brother George and his wife Mabel Viet of Grundy Center, Iowa; and two sisters: Jennie Bakker of Dike, Iowa and Elisabeth Clapp of Dike, Iowa.
