Mrs. Allison Dies At Son's Home In M'Polis

She Was a Resident of Grundy Center 50 Years

Mrs. Helen Allison, wife of the late E. H. Allison, died at the home of her son Earl in Minneapolis last Saturday following an illness of about two years. During the past she was almost entirely incapacitated and needed constant care. Her health began to decline gradually following the death of her husband four years ago.

Mrs. Allison's maiden name was Helen Ketner. She was born at Cherrytree, Penn., Oct. 10, 1857. The first 23 years were lived in her native state until her marriage Dec. 23, 1880, to Edward Hale Allison. Before her marriage she followed the vocation of teacher for several years in the public schools of Pennsylvania.

Mr. and Mrs. Allison came to Grundy county in January, 1881, and started housekeeping on a farm in Washington township. Her first experience with Iowa weather was a snowstorm which kept the young couple housed up in their home during the first month that they lived there. After residing on the farm for ten years Mr. and Mrs. Allison moved to Grundy Center where Mr. Allison went into business. Upon moving to town Mrs. Allison joined the Grundy Center Methodist church and continued her membership up to the time of her death.

Mrs. Allison is survived by her son Earl, who resides in Minneapolis. There are two surviving sisters and three brothers. The sisters are Mrs. F. L. Peters from Sagerstown, Pa., and Mrs. C. O. Hornestein from Erie, Pa. The brothers are O. H. Ketner, Corry, Pa., Will Ketner, Albany, N.Y., and H. W. Ketner from Tampa, Fla.

The remains were sent to Grundy Center for burial by the side of the husband. Services conducted by Rev. J. B. Bird were held in the Methodist church Monday afternoon. Relatives from a distance who were here at the funeral were E. W. Allison from Minneapolis and Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Allison from Peterson, Iowa.
