George Staple was born in the state of Maine, Jan. 4th, 1846, and departed this life at his late home in Grundy Center, Iowa, March 7th, 1929, aged 83 years, 2 months and 3 days.
He was united in marriage to Miss Nan Barber Jan. 2nd, 1873. To this union two sons were born, one of whom died in infancy. Those surviving beside his aged widow are one son, Roy, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mr. and Mrs. Staple lived more than a half century together spending a part of these years in the state of Washington, later moving to Wisconsin. In the fall of 1924 they came to Grundy Center, purchasing the little home where they both have enjoyed a quiet life together. Mr. Staple, tho greatly afflicted, proved himself an industrious neighbor and citizen. He was a successful gardener and busied himself with the duties of the home. He will be greatly missed by his aged widow, children, neighbors and citizens and those who knew him best. Thus a life of many years has come to a close.
Rev. E. E. Heltibridle, a near neighbor of the family, officiated at the funeral services held from the home at 1:30 Saturday afternoon.
Burial was in the Grundy cemetery west of town.
