Whitten Mayor Died Thursday

Death late Thursday claimed J. A. Foster, one of the older residents of Whitten, who at the time of his death was mayor of Whitten and manager of the Whitten Produce Station for the Harding Cream Company, of Des Moines. He had been ill for some time and had he lived another month he would have been 70 years old.

Mr. Foster was born March 23, 1860, in Brooklyn, N.Y., a son of William and Susan Foster. He was married in 1882 to Anna Smith and they have made their home here since that time. Both were charter members of the Whitten Christian church.

Besides his widow, who is just recovering from a few days illness, he is survived by two sons, Frank, of Marshalltown, and Bert, of Iowa Falls; two brothers, Charles, of Algona, Wash., and James, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a sister, Mrs. Jennie Sutton, of Grand Meadows, Minn.; a half-sister, Alice Foster, of Long Island, N.Y., and six grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. from the Christian church. Rev. F. C. Griewe, pastor of the Methodist church, officiated.
