Dike Mayor's Wife Dies Monday In A Waterloo Hospital

Mrs. H. J. Knudsen Passes Away Following An Operation

Funeral Services At Dike This Afternoon

Operation Was For Removal of Cancer Which Was Discovered But Recently

Mrs. Hans J. Knudsen, wife of the mayor of Dike, died at Allen Memorial hospital in Waterloo at 9:45 Monday evening following an operation for the removal of a cancer. She was taken to the hospital last Sunday and submitted to an operation shortly after. While Mrs. Knudsen had been in poor health for a number of month, she nor the family did not know the cause of her trouble until a diagnosis was made of her case at the hospital the day before her death.

Maggie Walter was born Nov. 14, 1876, at Mendota, Ill., the daughter of Carl and Barbara Walter. She came to Iowa with her parents when a young girl, the family settling on a farm near Hudson.

She was married to Hans J. Knudsen Nov. 24, 1897. They resided on a farm near Hudson for six years. Sixteen years ago the family came to Dike where they have made their home continually. Mrs. Knudsen was a member of the Methodist church at Dike and was an active worker. She was held in high esteem by all who knew her and the entire community sympathizes with the family in their sudden bereavement.

Surviving besides her husband are four sons, Charles Knudson, Detroit, Mich.; Leo Knudson, Cedar Falls, Bernie Knudsen, Fontanelle, Ia., and Lyman Knudsen, at home. A daughter, Hildegard, died in infancy.

Also surviving are the following brothers and sisters: Barnie Walter, Dike; Mrs. Carrie Yost, Dysart; Mrs. Laura Bauer, Cedar Falls; Mrs. Sadie McBride, Boise, Ida.; Mrs. John Becker, Des Moines; Gus Walter, Dike; Mrs. Ida Hamilton, Marshalltown; Mrs. F. C. Gutknecht, Tony Walter and Albert Walter, all of Waterloo.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) in the Methodist Episcopal church at Dike, Rev. A. B. Chamberlin, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the cemetery there.
