William B. Rice was born in Port Royal, Juniata county, Penn., Oct. 2, 1849, and passed away at the home of his sister, Mrs. Ellen Albert, in Grundy Center, Iowa, at eleven o'clock on the evening of Friday, Oct. 28th, 1927, aged 78 years and 26 days.

Mr. Rice was married to Miss Mary Hanchey at Harrisburg, Penn., April 11th, 1882. Their married life continued for fifteen years when the wife passed away on their anniversary day, April 11th, 1897, at the age of thirty-five years, leaving no children.

Mr. Rice came to Grundy Center in 1901, and this has been his home almost continuously since that time.

There remain to mourn his departure one brother, Frank, in Pennsylvania, and two sisters, Mrs. Katheryn Roper, of Coatsville, Penn., and Mrs. Ellen Albert, of Grundy Center.

Mr. Rice had been a long sufferer with heart trouble and his illness extended over a long period of time.

He was a member of the Knights of Pythias order and had kept his membership in a Chicago lodge.

Funeral services were held from the home of Mrs. Albert on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 30th, 1927, conducted by Rev. Edward Crane, of the First Baptist church, assisted by Rev. F. O. Winslow of the M.E. church. Pallbearers were selected from the local K. of P. lodge. Interment was in the Grundy Center cemetery.
