Pioneer of Grundy and Hardin Dies

Frances Lewis was born in England October 14, 1838, and died July 9, 1927.

She was married to Henry F. Baker, June 4, 1863, and came with her husband to America in 1871. They settled in Ackley, removed to Union, and later to Liscomb. In 1880 they moved to a farm in Grundy county where they lived until 1908, when she and her husband came to reside in Whitten.

She was the mother of a large family of children, most of whom died in infancy. The three daughters and one son who reached the age of maturity are Mrs. Wm. Parrish and Mrs. F. W. Bowers, both deceased. Mrs. J. W. Ingham of Swaledale, and Joseph Baker of Whitten, thirteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren also survive her.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Knoer of the Methodist church at the Church of Christ on Tuesday at 2 p.m. The pall bearers were six grandsons of Mrs. Baker. Interment was in the Benson cemetery.

The relatives and friends who attended the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Jess Ingham, Clyde Collins and family, Mesdames Benson and Ingraham, all of Swaledale; Frank Dockrey and wife and Mrs. Martha Berry, of Hampton; Wilbur and Geo. Thompson and their families and Mrs. James Loomis, of Geneva, Iowa; Mrs. Hattie Knot of Clarion; E. H. Moon and family of New Providence, Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Ingham, of Marshalltown.
