Fred Tholen died at his home in Parkersburg last Saturday night. Death came quite suddenly from hemorrhage of the lungs. He had been making his home with his mother. He and his mother retired about eleven o'clock Saturday night. Some time later Mrs. Tholen heard a noise in the bathroom. She got up and found her son lying on the bathroom floor. He died within an hour after he was stricken. Funeral services were held today from the Lutheran Evangelical church of German township. Mr. Tholen was about thirty-five years old. He was not married. The family were long time residents of German township.

Obituary

Frederick Tholen was born in Pleasant Valley township June 17, 1888, the son of Ubbo Tholen and Gesina Diekhoff Tholen. After the death of his father, the family went to Parkersburg where he graduated from the high school. He attended Hope College, Holland, Mich., for three years and finished with a business course in Quincy, Ill. Impaired health prevented him from entering upon a business career, but gave him leisure for studies in a variety of fields in which he was interested.

Funeral services were held in the M.E. church at Parkersburg under the direction of Rev. Siemsen and Rev. Weeldreyer, and a large number of attendants gave silent testimony of the high esteem in which the deceased was held in whatever place he had lived. With his mother in Parkersburg and his brother, Carl, of Chicago, a large number of other relatives mourn his untimely departure.

Interment was made in the Decker cemetery in German township by the side of his father, one sister and two brothers, who preceded him in death.

Those who came from a distance to attend the funeral were Carl Tholen, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Tholen and son, Herbert, Egan, Ill.; John Rieken, Byron, Ill.; Rev. W. Diekhoff and Antone Jacobs, Oregon, Ill.; Ben Schrick, Sibley, Iowa; Miss Leona Janvrin, Pecatonica, Ill., and Dr. Tobias Diekhoff, Ann Arbor, Mich.
