Young Woman Dies of Cancer
Mrs. Minnie Geerds died at a hospital in Algona last Friday night from cancer of the throat. Mrs. Geerds began to suffer about six months ago from a throat difficulty. She was at the hospital at Iowa City for several weeks where specialists declared they could do nothing more for her and she returned home. Later she was taken to the hospital at Algona. For a number of weeks before her death the family knew that the end was near.
The remains were sent to the home of Mrs. Geerds' father, Harm Meyer, at Stout. Funeral services were held at Stout Tuesday afternoon. The services were conducted by Oliver Smith from Waterloo, by Mr. Frey from Aplington and Mr. Armstrong of Philadelphia. The remains were laid by the side of the mother in the Stout cemetery. It was Mrs. Geerds' request that she be buried here.
Mrs. Geerds' maiden name was Minnie Meyer. She was born in this section of the county and lived here until a short time before her marriage. She was 22 years and 11 months old at the time of her death. She was married about five years ago to Henry Geerds and since that time the couple made their home at Titonka. There are two surviving children. The oldest is about four and the youngest is a baby of ten months. Other surviving relatives beside the father and the husband and children are four sisters and five brothers. Two brothers and one sister live in this locality. They are Harm and Fred Meyer and Mrs. George Meyer.
