Fairfield Pioneer Dies at Old Age

John Syndergaard was born in Anslet Sonder Jylland January 13, 1840. He spent the first forty years of his life in Denmark. After getting his education and growing to manhood he was united in marriage to Anna Kock in 1864 and to this union were born ten children. In 1881 this family came to America to establish a new home in Cedar Falls. They spent the remainder of their lives in the vicinity of Fredsville.

After the death of his wife in 1906 Mr. Syndergaard lived with his son, N. C. Syndergaard of Fredsville. Seven children and his wife preceded him in death, leaving two daughters, Mrs. C. Wolff and Mrs. C. H. Syndergaard, and one son, N. C. Syndergaard, to mourn his death. Besides these there are nineteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Grandfather Syndergaard died February 26, 1927, after a short illness of one week. He went to his reward brave and unafraid of death, and so passed the soul of one more honest christian who gave his life to the service of his fellow man.
