Grundy Pioneer Passed Away In Felix Township
Cal Stewart Died At His Home Tuesday Evening After Short Illness
Lived in County 55 Years
Was an Extensive Land Owner and Successful Grundy County Farmer
Calvin Stewart died at his home three miles northwest of Conrad at 6:45 Tuesday evening. Last November he suffered a stroke of paralysis. While it was but a partial stroke, Mr. Stewart's health declined gradually from that time on. While the family realized that his health was failing, they were not prepared for the rapid change that brought to an end a long and vigorous life.
Mr. Stewart was 87 years old on the 2nd of last November. He was born in New York state and came to Grundy county fifty-five years ago and lived here continually up to the time of his death. Mr. Stewart knew good land when he saw it and in his earlier years he bought a number of choice farms in Clay and Felix townships and he owned them at the time of his death. He not only knew good land when he saw it but he also knew how to care for it so that he could keep it good. He gained a wide acquaintance in southwest Grundy during the many years he lived there and he is being remembered by all as having been a good citizen and an accommodating neighbor.
Mr. Stewart's wife died about five years ago. Since that time he made his home a good share of the time with his son, Frank, who is the only surviving child.
Funeral services are being held at the home at 2:30 this afternoon. Burial will be in the family lot in the Conrad cemetery.
