Joe Maehrlein Died at Reinbeck This Morning

Found Dead In Bed About 10 O'Clock; Apoplexy Was The Cause

Funeral Will Be Saturday

Was Leading Figure at Reinbeck and a Former County Supervisor

Joe Maehrlein, leading business man and politician at Reinbeck for many years, was found dead in his bed at the hotel at Reinbeck about ten o'clock this morning. Apoplexy is believed to have been the cause. He was up quite late with friends last night, but got up at the usual time this morning and had breakfast after which he went back to his room again to lie down. A little later he was found dead in his bed.

Joe Maehrlein was for many years one of the leading political factors in Grundy county. He served on the county board of supervisors for six years, and during most of this time he was the board's chairman and its outstanding member. He was also a leading political factor in his home town. For many years he owned and operated the hotel at Reinbeck. On account of failing health he leased his hotel but owned the building up to the time of his death. Before coming to Reinbeck about twenty-five years ago he resided on a farm in Black Hawk township. His wife died several years ago. The surviving children are Mrs. R. B. Ferguson and his son, George, both of whom reside in Reinbeck. The funeral is to be on Saturday.
