Joe H. Meester Dies Thursday

Joe H. Meester died last Thursday evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Junker. He suffered a stroke about seven weeks ago, after which his health failed gradually until the end came. He was taken care of in the Junker home during his last illness. He would have been 81 years old next August.

The body was brought to the Engelkes funeral home in Grundy Center where it was prepared for burial. It was returned to the Junker home where funeral services were at 12:30 Wednesday afternoon and later at the Colfax Presbyterian church with Rev. George Swalve officiating. Burial was in the cemetery adjoining the church.

Resided in County All of His Life
Mr. Meester spent all of his life in Grundy county. He was born in Colfax township Mar. 12, 1870. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harm Meester. He grew up on the farm there.

On February 28, 1894, Joe H. Meester and Memke Meyer were married in Colfax township. They resided on a Colfax township farm until 1925 when they moved to Holland. He was employed in the farmers elevator here and for some of that time he was the manager. He had been living in retirement several years. His wife died on May 31st of last year. Since then he resided most of the time at the home of one of his daughters.

Surviving are seven daughters: Mrs. John R. Junker, Aplington; Mrs. Harm Stahl, Grundy Center; Mrs. Grace Barkee and Mrs. Menno Klunder, Conrad; Mrs. Bernard Stahl, Wellsburg; Mrs. Harm Hook, Grundy Center; Mrs. John E. Riekena, Wellsburg; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one brother, Dan, Rock Rapids; one sister, Mrs. Mattie Kampman, Aplington, and one stepbrother, Eilert Pruis, of Holland.
