Boyd Cordes Dies In C.F. Hospital

Boyd Cordes, a long time resident of the north part of Grundy county, died at Sartori hospital in Cedar Falls Tuesday night. He had been a patient in the hospital for two weeks. He was 85 years old.

Funeral services will be at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Herman Paterni, at one o'clock Friday afternoon, and at 1:30 at Salem Lutheran church, with the local pastor, Rev. Alfred Schumm, officiating. Burial will be in the Brown cemetery near the church.

Mr. Cordes' obituary will be published in the next issue of The Register.

Obituary Boyd Cordes

Boyd Cordes was born in Forreston, Ill., the son of Albert Cordes and his wife Effie, nee Pankuk, on Jan. 21, 1866. In his early youth he came to Iowa with his parents, who first settled in Lincoln township. Later they moved to Beaver township.

Upon reaching maturity he was married to Anna Aswegen, which union was blessed with five children: Mrs. Ubbie Marks, Stout; John Cordes, Dike; Albert Cordes, Parkersburg; Mrs. Jake Klaassen, Stout; and Mrs. Herman Paterni.

After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Cordes lived on a farm northwest of Fern in Pleasant Valley township for 30 years, and then lived in retirement in Stout until Mrs. Cordes passed away in 1944. From then on he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Herman Paterni, and family.

Mr. and Mrs. Cordes were privileged to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary March 12th, 1944.

Mr. Cordes was a communicant member of Salem Lutheran church and burial was in the church cemetery, Rev. Alfred F. Schumm officiating.

He was preceded in death by his beloved and faithful wife, three sisters and one brother. Surviving are his five children, eight grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
