Small Boy Falls In Lake; Drowns

John Wayne Scovel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Scovel of Versailles, Mo., fell into the lake accidentally and drowned last Saturday. The boy was 22 months and 22 days old.

Mr. and Mrs. Scovel own a resort on Lake of the Ozarks. The little boy had left the house unnoticed and no doubt lost his balance near the lake shore and fell into the water. He was missed within a few minutes. The boy's father and Walter Stock, an uncle who was visiting the Scovel family, rescued the boy from the water within five minutes after he fell in. All efforts to restore life were of no help.

The boy was born at Oelwein, Iowa. A year and a half ago his parents purchased a lake resort in the Ozarks and they have been living there since.

The boy has four grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Stock of Grundy Center, and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Scovel Sr. from Marshalltown. Other survivors in addition to the parents are a brother, Stephen, four years old.

The body was sent to Grundy county for burial. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church at Morrison Wednesday afternoon. The services were in charge of Rev. Hauter, pastor of the Presbyterian church in Oelwein, assisted by Rev. Haupt, pastor of the Morrison church. Burial was in the Morrison cemetery.
