Mrs. E. W. Doeden Dies at Hospital

Mrs. E. W. Doeden, who spent most of her life in Grundy county, died last Friday at Mercy hospital in Waverly following an operation. She was 64 years old.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the New Hartford Methodist church. Burial was in the Reformed church cemetery two miles west of Fern.

Rev. Trevor Baskerville, pastor of the New Hartford Methodist church, was in charge of the funeral service.

Ella Doeden was born in Germany on February 13, 1886, the daughter of Johannes and Dena Bergman. She came to America as a child with her parents and settled in Grundy county, Iowa.

She was married to Engelke Doeden on Jan. 16, 1906, in this county. They farmed in Grundy and Butler counties until March 1947, when they retired to New Hartford.

Surviving are the husband; six sons and 3 daughters; George Doeden of Allison; Dena, of New Hartford; Joe, Allison; Mrs. Anna Ramige, Shell Rock; Omke, Allison; James, Dubuque; Mrs. Grace Johnson, Waterloo; Tom, of Shell Rock; Ernest, New Hartford.

She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Jennie Schurmann, of Hammond, Ind.; two half-brothers, Frank Bergman of New Hartford and Tammo Bergman of Aplington.
