Mrs. Baker, Conrad, Dies In 78th Year

Conrad-- Mrs. Mark Baker, 77, died at 8 p.m. Friday at her home three miles southwest of Conrad. She had been ill several years.

She was born Mattie Delp on May 1, 1873, northeast of Liscomb, the daughter of Peter and Barbara Delp who came to this country from Germany. Mrs. Baker had lived all her life on the farm and since 1889 in the house where she died.

Mrs. Baker attended Roney rural schools and Brethren college at Mount Morris, Ill. She was a member of the Ivester Church of the Brethren. On April 16, 1913, she was married to Mark Baker.

Surviving are the widower; one daughter, Ruth, at home; and two step-sons, W. L. Baker, Topeka, Kan., and Edwin Baker, Chicago, Ill.

Services are being planned by the Johnston funeral home in Conrad and burial will be in the Sheller cemetery north of the Ivester church. The family has requested that flowers be omitted.

Funeral of Mrs. Mark Baker Held Monday

Funeral services for Mrs. Mark Baker, who died Friday night at her home southwest of Conrad, were held Monday afternoon at the Johnston Funeral home in Conrad. Rev. Walter Heisey of the Ivester church, officiated. Burial was in the Sheller cemetery north of the Ivester church. Music was furnished by Mrs. Malcolm Leonard and Mrs. W. W. Shaw. Pall bearers were Sam McAllister, Garfield Simmons, Fred Zeltman and John, Ernest and Frank Katzer, Jr.

Relatives and friends were present from Gilman, Liscomb, Cedar Rapids, Waterloo, Eldora, Marshalltown, Conrad and Topeka, Kansas.

Mrs. Mark Baker Dies

Mrs. Mark Baker, 77, died at 8 p.m. Friday night at her home 3 1/2 miles southwest of Conrad, following an extended illness.

She was born May 1, 1873, in Felix township, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Delf. She was married to Mark Baker in Des Moines April 16, 1913. To this union was born one daughters Ruth, at home. Mrs. Baker is survived by her widower, her daughter and two stepsons, W. L. Baker of Topeka, Kansas, and Edwin Baker of Chicago, Ill. The body is at the Johnston Funeral home in Conrad.
