Former Grant Township Woman Dead

Mrs. J. H. Cook died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Petersen, in Orange township, Black Hawk county, last Tuesday. Death was due to cancer from which Mrs. Cook had been a sufferer for the past three years. She had submitted to treatment and an operation in the hope of securing relief. This treatment no doubt prolonged life for a longer period than attending physicians believed it possible for her to live. She had been a resident in Grant and Black Hawk townships during the largest portion of her life but during the past two years, she made her home with her daughter in Orange township.

Funeral services were held at the home Thursday afternoon. They were conducted by Rev. Chamberlin from Dike. Interment was in the cemetery at Dike.

Amelia Thompson Cook was born July 22, 1868, in Iowa. For more than thirty years the family made their home on a farm north of Reinbeck and later moved to that town for a short time. She was the mother of five children, four of whom, with the husband, survive her. These are three daughters, Mrs. Peterson, Mrs. Boysen, of Dike, and Mrs. Tim Lines, of Gruver, Iowa, and son Richard, of Dike. Another son, Charles, died only a few weeks ago.
