Henry Luitjens Sr. Died Tuesday

Early Grundy Resident Dies at Daughter's Home at Little Rock

Henry Luitjens, Sr., died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Christians, at Little Rock on August 3rd. He was in his ninetieth year and died from old age. He was an early resident of Grundy county, coming here 52 years ago. He resided here continually until the death of his second wife, since which time he made his home at Little Rock.

Mr. Luitjens was born at Stopplemoor, Germany, Dec. 28th, 1836. He came to this country with his parents when he was eighteen years old. The family located in Illinois. Mr. Luitjens came to Grundy county in 1874. The last three years he was at the home of his daughter at Little Rock.

The deceased was married to Miss Susana Fokken. This union was blessed with eleven children. Seven of the children and the mother preceded the husband and father to the land beyond. The wife and mother died in 1909. Mr. Luitjens was married again in 1911. The second wife passed away seven years ago.

The surviving children are Mrs. Tillie Christians from Little Rock, L. H. Luitjens, Grundy Center, Wm. Luitjens, Little Rock, and Mrs. Sarah VanTiger, of Grundy county. There are forty-four grandchildren, thirty-six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held at Little Rock on Thursday. The remains were sent to Wellsburg and reached there Thursday night. Interment was made in the cemetery at the Engelke church in German township by the side of his first wife. Services were held in the Engelke church, conducted by the local pastor.
