Death of Former Grundy Lady

Mrs. Allen G. Close died at St. Francis hospital, Waterloo, last Sunday afternoon, aged 58 years. she had been ill for some time with a complication of diseases.

Katie E. Sherratt was born Dec. 16, 1867, at the old family homestead in Grundy county near Reinbeck, where she resided until she was married. She taught school in Grundy county for a number of years previous to her marriage to Allen G. Close, Sept. 16, 1888, at Waterloo.

At an early age the deceased affiliated with the Methodist Episcopal church but later transferred her letter to the Union Congregational church upon moving to Waterloo some years ago.

Two daughters, Rachel and Mrs. Sylvia Morrison, preceded their mother in death. Two sons, Blair, Villard, Minn., and Claude, Comfrey, Minn., and the husband survive. A sister, Mrs. Geo. E. Sibert, Waterloo, four brothers, Joseph, Waterloo; James, Colfax, Iowa; John, Ackley, Iowa, and Clarence, Des Moines, and seven grandchildren survive.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the home of Mrs. Sibert, 702 Third street west, Dr. J. Arthur Young, pastor of First Methodist Episcopal church, officiating. The remains were taken to Reinbeck for burial in the family plot.
