Carl W. Miller, 93, of Morrison, IA, died on Tuesday, August 23, 2011, at Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center. Following cremation Memorial Services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, August 26, 2011 at United Methodist Church in Reinbeck, Iowa. Burial will follow at Washington Township Cemetery rural Morrison we will then return to church for lunch. No Visitation is being planned. Memorials may be directed to Grundy County Memorial Hospital and/or Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at www.cff.org.
Carl Wesley Miller was born on April 18, 1918, in Elma, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Anna (Drinovsky) Miller. Carl grew up in the Elma area. On August 11, 1940, at the Presbyterian Church in Belle Plaine he was united in marriage to Virginia Violet Miller. Carl worked for John Deere Tractor in Waterloo for 8 years and then went farming in 1951 in Howard County. He farmed until 1969 and then moved to Cresco and owned a Tavern for 2 years. In 1972 Carl and Virginia moved to Morrison and they ran "The Shack" for 16 years. Carl retired in 1988 and then worked part time at Park View Manor in Reinbeck.
Carl and Virginia loved to travel together, dance and socialize. Carl enjoyed playing cards and being a handyman. He loved spending time with his family and friends.
Surviving Carl are his sons, Terry (Nancy) Miller of Lime Springs, IA, Dennis (Nancy) Miller of Robins, IA; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Virginia; sisters, Edna (Blu) Riesner and Hilda (Hank) Horstman.
