Rachel Barnes, 88 of Grundy Center, passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2011 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Funeral Services will be Saturday, November 26, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church in Grundy Center. Visitation will be on Friday, November 25, 2011 at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. Memorials may be directed to Rachel's family.

Rachel was born March 4, 1923, in Grundy County, Iowa the daughter of Dick and Lena (Raske) Grimmius. She grew up in the Grundy County area and attended country schools in Lincoln Township. Rachel was united in marriage to Lawrence (Larry) Barnes on February 10, 1942, in Grundy County Iowa. Two daughters were born to this union, Betty and Dorothy. After their marriage Rachel helped Larry on the farm. Later she worked for Franks-Grundy Food Market and Cechs Grocery in Grundy Center. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. But most of all spending time with her grandchildren. Rachel was a member of the First Baptist Church in Grundy Center.

She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Leach and her husband David of Des Moines, IA; 5 grand children and 17 great-grandchildren; and sister, Alice Barnes and husband Loyal of Mason City, IA.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Larry; daughter, Betty Dahlstrom-Snodgrass.
