Helen Irene Meyer, age 92, of Holland, Iowa passed away on Friday, September 28, 2012 at Parkview Manor in Reinbeck, Iowa while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, October 1, 2012 at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. Burial will be held privately by the family at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at the Orchard Hill Church at Lincoln Center. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Helen was born on November 30, 1919 in Marshalltown, Iowa to Walter and Lillie (Frost) Thorn. She graduated from Marshalltown High School with the class of 1939. Helen was united in marriage to Alvin Meyer on July 30, 1940. They lived in Holland all of their married life. In her earlier years Helen loved teaching Sunday school and Bible school at the Holland Christian Reformed Church. She then became a member of the Lincoln Center Christian Reformed Church. Helen's true joy in life came from spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Helen is survived by her son Dean (Jan) Meyer of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; daughter Deb (Steve) Ahrenholz of Minneapolis, Minnesota; 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; sister Gladys Boldt of Jasper, Georgia; and sisters-in-law Lavine Weichers, Janice Thorn and Bernice Thorn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Alvin; son Vincent Lee and brothers Cecil, Richard and Clifford Thorn.
