Irene C. Bessman, 82, of Wellsburg, passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 26th, 10:30 A.M. at the St. John's United Church of Christ in Ackley. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 25th from 4 to 6 P.M. at the Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg. Burial will follow funeral services at the Oakwood Cemetery in Ackley.

Irene was born on March 7, 1930 in Grundy County, Iowa, the daughter of Jake H. & Amelia (Rixman) Lindaman. She was raised in the Wellsburg/Ackley area, graduating from the Ackley High School in 1948. On August 20, 1950, Irene was united in marriage to Brice Bessman at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in rural Wellsburg. The couple resided on the family farm for 59 years.

Through life, Irene enjoyed her grandchildren and attending all of their activities. Her great-grandson was the twinkle in her eye. She enjoyed cooking and baking, trying out new recipes. Everyone knew there were always fresh baked treats at her home. She enjoyed a good romance novel. She had a passionate love for dogs. Some of her favorite past times were growing house plants, spending time in her flower and vegetable gardens and completing many word puzzles.

Irene will be dearly missed by her son Mark and special friend Brenda Anderson and daughter Diane Babcock and her husband Terry, all of Wellsburg; grandson Chase Babcock and granddaughter Candi Meyer and her husband Dustin and their son, great-grandson Alex Meyer, all of Wellsburg. She is also survived by her sister Betty Kakacek; sisters-in-law Minnie Eddy, Eileen Schultz and Martha Bessman; brothers-in-law Don (Bonnie) Bessman, Merle Whitmire and Robert Moore; many nieces and nephews.

She will join in eternal life her husband Brice; her parents; brother Wallace Lindaman; sisters-in-law Ruth Roegner, Lois Moore & Delilah Whitmire; brothers-in-law Stan Kakacek, Jack Eddy, Don Roegner, Bill Schultz, Zeal Bessman; great-granddaughter Claire Meyer.
