Obituary of Mrs. P. T. Evans

Sallie High Shepp, daughter of Samuel and Sarah Ann Shepp, was born in Cumru township, Berk county, Pennsylvania, on Sept. 11, 1856, and died at her home near Beaman, Iowa, on Friday, August 14, 1925, aged 68 years, 11 months and 3 days.

On April 29, 1892, she was united in marriage to Philip Thomas Evans. After their marriage they came to Marshalltown, Iowa and lived there until the spring of 1893, when they moved on a farm near Beaman where they have since resided and where to them were born their three children.

She is survived by her husband, the daughter, Mrs. Sarah Ann Neff, the two sons, Wm. Thomas of Beaman, and Charles Mordecai, who resides at home, her beloved granddaughter, Eleanor Ruth Neff and a sister, Mrs. Emery Schweitzer of Reading, Penn., who was present with her throughout the days of her recent illness, also a number of more distant relatives.

Mrs. Evans united with the Reformed church at an early age, and to which church she has remained a member throughout her life. She has, however been a regular and faithful attendant of the Sunday school and church services of the Methodist Episcopal church of Beaman. She most loyally and cheerfully supported it in all its work for the advancement of her Master's kingdom. She lived an exemplar Christian life, ever active and ready to serve others. She met life with a brave cheerfulness that gave her the appearance of good health until the morning, August 1st when she was suddenly stricken and remained unconscious to the end.

"Life's work well and bravely done,
Life's course well and bravely run,
Life's crown well and faithfully won,
Now comes rest"

Funeral services were held from the home on Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The Rev. J. J. Snyder conducted the service. Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Guild sang consolingly. Mrs. Edith Miller, Mrs. Marvel Oglesby, Miss Josephine Wilkinson and Miss Hazel Belz were in charge of the flowers. F. L. Miller, M. B. Brown, W. S. Walter, C. C. Alexander, Elzy P. Smith and Clyde H. Fink acted as pallbearers. Interment was made in Oakland cemetery at Beaman.
