Kathryn T. Ellenberger, 100, of Reinbeck, Iowa, died Sunday, May 19, 2013, at Parkview Manor in Reinbeck while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Previously Kathryn had resided in Perry, Des Moines, and Bloomfield. Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 23, at the Reinbeck United Methodist Church, with Pastor Terry Plocher officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the memorial service at the church. A private family graveside service will be held on Friday, May 24, at IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Memorials may be made to the Reinbeck United Methodist Church or Cedar Valley Hospice.
Kathryn Louise was born May 15, 1913, in Drakesville, Iowa, the daughter of Harry T. and Effa Lillian (Dodge) Truitt. Kathryn grew up in the Drakesville and Bloomfield area, attended public schools, and graduated from Bloomfield High School. After graduation Kathryn attended Bloomfield Junior College and AIB in Des Moines. On Nov. 7, 1942, she was united in marriage to Carl William Ellenberger in Lancaster. MO. Kathryn was a secretary, working for Des Moines Public Library, U.S. Navy Department, and retired after working at Grand View College. She was a very active member of several churches over the years. Kathryn also enjoyed baking, sewing, listening to music, and playing the piano. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.
Kathryn is survived by her daughter Harriet (Bert) of New Brunswick, Canada, and son James (Marcia) of Reinbeck; granddaughters Lori (Randy) Johnson of Des Moines, Bethany (Doug) Casady of Cumming, Tiffany (Blake) Dodd of Reinbeck, Sarah Ellenberger of Reinbeck, Belen and Sylvana Ellenberger of Reinbeck; grandsons Peter Reichard of North Carolina, Lawrence Reichard of Maine, and Stephen of Oregon; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Carl, brother Keith Truitt, sisters Mabel Huffman and D. Lucile Truitt, and parents Harry and Effa Lillian Truitt.
