Francis J. Babinat, 90, of Reinbeck, passed away on Friday, September 27, 2013 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit while under Care Initiatives Hospice. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 30th from 5 to 8 P.M. at the French-Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck with an 8 P.M. scripture service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 1st at 10:30 A.M. at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 21275 U Ave., Reinbeck, IA. Burial will follow the funeral mass at the Reinbeck Cemetery.
Francis was born on September 2, 1923 in Voorhies, Iowa, the son of Adolph Albert & Marie Clair (Svoboda) Babinat. He attended school through the 8th grade in Voorhies. On October 8, 1945, Francis was united in marriage to Alice Maroah Barrer at the Blessing Catholic Church in Buckingham, Iowa. The couple welcomed 7 children into their family. His main occupation was working as a farmer. Francis lived and farmed in Hudson for 32 years. He also drove a bus for the Reinbeck School District for many years. Francis & Alice, his wife of 60 years, moved to Reinbeck in 1977 and worked for Farmers Feed & Supply in Reinbeck. He lived there until most recently, when he moved into the Grundy County Long Term Care in Grundy Center.
Francis was a member of the St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Reinbeck and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed Mollie B polka music, woodworking, fishing, and most of all, his family.
He is survived by his children Frances Babinat of Charlotte, NC, Lawrence (Deb) Babinat of Reinbeck, IA Tom (Jody) Babinat of Grundy Center, IA, Mary (Kenneth) Kiewiet of Grundy Center, IA, Joan (Vern) Rodie of Holland, IA, Paul (Barb) Babinat of Reinbeck, IA and Dorothy (Stacy) Babinat of Rogers, MN; 22 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; brother Adolph Babinat & sister Mary Ann Bryan; sisters-in-law Mary (Jim) Jones, Rose Babinat, Bernice Babinat & Audrey Babinat.
Francis was preceded in death by his wife Alice; granddaughter Kelly Jo Babinat; brothers, Edward, Melvin, John & Siemon Babinat; brothers-in-law Carl Bryan & Arnold Barrer; sisters-in-law Thelma Babinat, Joan Babinat & Mary Margaret Barrer.
