Gordon L. Johannsen, 61, of Reinbeck, Iowa, died at his home on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 while under the loving care of his family and Iowa River Hospice. A gathering to Celebrate Gordon's Life will be held Saturday, December 14, 2013 from 2:00 pm-6:00 pm at French-Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Gordon Lee Johannsen was born on May 2, 1952 in Reinbeck, Iowa. He was the son of Harvey and Marlys (Guelner) Johannsen. Gordon grew up in the Reinbeck area. He attended and graduated from Reinbeck High School with the class of 1970. After graduation Gordon worked at the canning factory in Reinbeck and Mid-Equipment in Grundy Center from 1972-1978. In 1978 he met Barb. Gordon worked for The Brent Co. in Shell Rock, Commercial Millwright Services and Heavy Equipment Construction in Grundy Center. He married Barbara Sheda on November 12, 2003 in Reinbeck, Iowa.

Gordon enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing, cooking and building things with wood or iron. He loved spending time with his family and friends.

Gordon was a member of the United Church of Christ in Reinbeck.

Gordon is survived by his wife, Barbara of Reinbeck; mother, Marlys of Reinbeck; sons, Jeremy (Michelle) Vaverka of Garwin, Juston (Sarah) Vaverka of Garwin, Jason (Misty) Vaverka of White Lake, SD, Lance (Nicki) Johannsen of Toledo and Aaron Johannsen of Lincoln; grandchildren, Kelsey Vaverka, Austin Vaverka, Hannah Vaverka, Allison Vaverka, Zoey Vaverka, Zian Vaverka, Zane Vaverka, Zada Vaverka, Taylor Johannsen, Shelby Johannsen, Rylee Johnston and Sam Sheda; brother, Gary (Joyce) Johannsen of Wellsburg.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harvey and brother, Galen.
