Mrs. Peatow, Grundy Pioneer, Dead

A long time resident of the Reinbeck community passed peacefully away at her home Thursday night in the death of Mrs. Sophia Peatow. She had been in gradually failing health for some time and two weeks ago suffered a stroke of paralysis, from which she was unable to rally. The end came as a favorite hymn she had requested was being played.

Sophia Peatow was born January 18, 1844, in Wurtemburg, Germany, and came to this country with her parents at the age of four. For several years the family lived at Riding, Penn., and then moved west to Freeport, Ill. Here she was married in 1866 to Henry Peatow. Six children were born to them, three of whom are living.

Thirty-nine years ago they moved to Grundy county, settling on the farm that is still owned by the family. Here Mr. Peatow passed away January 5, 1899. For many years she remained on the farm with her sons but in 1917 moved to Reinbeck to make her home.

Three sons, Henry, William and Edward, preceded their mother in death. The living children are Mrs. Louisa Porter, Mrs. Emma Peterson and Fred Peatow, all of Reinbeck.
