Carl Alters Dead

Carl Alters died at the home of his son Ernest west of Stout last Saturday. Diabetes was the cause of his death. He had been troubled with this disease for the past eighteen years and never was fully well during all of that time. His condition grew suddenly worse only a few days before his death and from the time he was compelled to take to his bed he grew gradually worse until the end came.

Funeral services were held at the Voss church Tuesday afternoon. Interment was made by the side of his wife in the Voss church cemetery.

Mr. Alters was born in Bradenburg, Germany, in 1854 and was 69 years, 9 months and 15 days old at the time of his death. He came to this country in the year 1883 and located in Grundy county. The first few years he worked on a farm and rented a farm for a number of years until he bought the 160 acres in Beaver township which was his home continually up to the time of his death.

Mr. Alters was married in 1886 to Marie Shoemaker. Two children survive from this union. They are the only son, Ernest, of this township and the daughter, Mrs. A. Brandt from Mountain Lake, Minn. The wife died in December, 1920. Since that time Mr. Alters made his home with his son where everything was done to make his declining years as pleasant and as comfortable as possible.

Mr. Alters was a good citizen, a good friend and a good neighbor. He was held in high regard by the many who learned to know him during the many years that he made his home in this locality.
