Former Dike Mail Carrier Is Dead

George Roberts Was Old Resident in Northeast Grundy

Word was received at Dike that George Roberts had passed away Tuesday afternoon about three o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ed. Kappelman, four miles northwest of Dike. Mr. Roberts had been in poor health all summer, but he had been confined to his bed only about two weeks.

He was the first rural carrier out of the Dike postoffice, having been a most faithful employee of the government for over twenty years, retiring on a pension about two years ago.

He was 68 years old at the time of his death, and leaves to mourn his loss two sons and three daughters, five grandchildren, and an only brother, Dana Roberts, of Reinbeck. His wife preceded him in death about 20 years.

The following are the children who will miss the one who gave them the loving care of both father and mother since the death of the mother, which occurred when they were small children: Frank Roberts, a farmer living northeast of Dike, Mrs. Jennie Huntsinger, of Waterloo, Mrs. Ed. Kappelman, at whose home he died, Mrs. George Grunnet of Chicago, and Fred Roberts, the present rural carrier, having the position his father held so long.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at two o'clock at the Dike M.E. church, Rev. A. B. Chamberlin in charge. Burial will be in the Dike cemetery.
