This community was grieved to learn of the death of one of their friends and neighbors, in that of Chas. Schultz, which occurred at his home south of town on Sunday, July 13.
He had been a sufferer for some time with cancer of the jaw and had been bedfast for the past six months.
Charles Fred Schultz was born in Cook county, Ill., May 1, 1859, and departed this life July 13, 1924, aged 65 years, 2 months and 12 days.
He moved to LaPorte City, Iowa, in 1891, where his home was for five years. In 1896 he moved to Marshall county where he made his home since.
In 1891 Mr. Schultz was married to Mary Hickethier, who survives him, together with three sons, Elmer, of Beaman, Iowa, Arthur and Will at home, and four daughter, Lottie, Pearl, Frances and Hattie, all at home and one sister, Lena Schultz, who lives at LaPorte City.
While living at LaPorte City he united with the German Evangelical church in which he was a faithful member. On coming to Marshall county, he worshiped in the Conrad Methodist church. Mr. Schultz was also a member of Camp No. 2273 of the Modern Woodmen of America.
Christian fortitude and patience characterized his life and bravely he borne his affliction. He was ever a kind and loving father, friend and neighbor, and will be greatly missed by his loved ones and the community.
Funeral services were held in the Methodist church on Tuesday afternoon conducted by Rev. E. J. Starr and burial was in the Conrad cemetery.
